2009 Wedding Style

Published on 16 July 2008

If you are planning on tying the knot in 2009, then no doubt your thoughts will have turned to what exactly that Dress is going to be like. Now normally shopping for an outfit a year or more in advance might seem a bit extreme but when you're looking for the dress that's going to mark one of the most important events in your life, you want to make sure that you're right on trend. What better way then, to get some inspiration than to look at the creations that designers sent down the catwalk at the most important international showcase in the bridal world - the Barcelona Bridal Week. To save you hours of searching the net though, here at Henry Kaye, we have browsed the collections for you to bring you the latest on what's hot rather than what's not in wedding fashion for 2009.

If you are looking for that truly fairy-tale gown that you can float down the aisle in, then full Cinderella style dresses are out. Instead the upper silhouette is sleek with structured bodices and the skirts are long and layered in a style reminiscent of the ra-ra skirts that we all wore in the ‘80's.  Structured pleats, ruching and asymetric cuts with fishtail skirts were also trends that ran through all the shows.

And for all those aspiring princesses out there, classic regal designs in rich, opulent fabrics with texture and elaborate detailing are the way to go. Keep necklines uncluttered and the line simple with luxurious silk satins giving that regal touch. Look for feathering, embroidery, lace and bows or corsages to then give that little something extra which will make you look and feel like a princess for the day.

Or if something simpler is your style, elegant and sleek lines were what the designers were sending down the runway, with Grecian influenced sheath designs being totally on-trend. Fabrics were sheer with chiffons and flowing silks keeping the look elegant and uncluttered.

If drama and statement is what you're all about, how about adding a bit of colour into the proceedings? To really make an entrance, what about hot pink or fuschia? These were certainly two of the main colours of the week. Or if you still want to keep a bit sophistication, then black and white were hot, one of our favourites coupled a stunning white dress with a striking black satin version of the tux-style jacket we've all being wearing during the current season. A top hat then finished the look! Dramatic florals and lace also made a repeat appearance, continuing the trends from 2008.

So that's our style guide for what's hot for 2009 wedding style. Happy shopping and we look forward to seeing you at Henry Kaye when you are looking for those stunning shoes and beautiful accessories to add those final touches to that perfect dress. And don't forget to browse our range of bridesmaid and flower girl dresses to ensure that all your young attendants look totally gorgeous too!
