Credit Crunch Wedding Style - Budget Weddings

Published on 10 September 2008

With couples feeling the pinch with the credit crunch in full swing and the average wedding now costing around £11,000, it certainly isn't a match made in heaven. But one bride in Stockton found the ultimate bargain when she was planning her dream wedding on a budget - the perfect wedding dress for the princely sum of 5p. According to article in The Telegraph, Mrs Saint was surprised to win the antique white lace and silk dress on Ebay at such a low bid. Even with postage costs, it only cost her £40.05!  In fact the entire wedding day only cost £3500. Another couple in North Devon scoured the bargain rails of charity shops and Ebay for all their wedding accessories and managed to tie the knot for the extortionate amount of £480.

Now scouring charity rails may be just that step too far for you, and do you really want to risk your big day by investing in a wedding dress when you have no guarantee over the quality and no help with the fit, but how can you still have the perfect look, without saddling yourselves with years of debt to pay for it? Read on for some hints and tips on how to tie the knot on a budget without compromising on your dream day.

You could follow the risky lead of the bride in Stockton and scour Ebay for that bargain wedding dress. Or if that is a bit extreme for you, then check out the rails of your local wedding dress shop during the sales. Alternatively, check out our range of cheap bridal shoes for some inspiration, something like the Tiffany bridal shoes give that designer look without the designer price tag or the Stephanie bridal shoes are classic sophistication itself.

Book yourself a consultation with one of the make-up companies at your local department store before the big day. They often do free consultations if you buy some of their products so you can get some professional tips on how to create that perfect wedding look and then get the products so you can recreate it at home yourself on your big day.  Plus you have a nice new make-up bag to take away with you on honeymoon!. As for your nails, have the ultimate girlie night in the night before your wedding with some friends and champagne. You can do each other's nails while having that last single girls' gossip together. Just remember not to drink too much and not to stay up all night or you'll look a little worse for wear on your big day!!

Not forgetting the bridesmaids, check out our range of cheap bridesmaid and flower girl dresses for some stunning designs that don't scrimp on quality and style. Something like the lace Victoria bridesmaids dress is perfect for little princesses whilst being bang on trend style wise. Or if something more traditional is to your taste, then the Carla bridesmaid dresses are ideal for a classic, sophisticated wedding. With their simple satin bodices, satin circle skirts overlaid with edged organza and ruched organza sashes hand finished with organza flowers, they are simple elegance. You can even choose the colour of the bodice to complement the rest of your wedding theme and with the even largest sizes costing less than £50, you don't need to break the bank.
