EastEnders wedding – wedding bells for Peggy Mitchell

Published on 01 April 2009

Will it be third time lucky for Peggy Mitchell as wedding bells ring out over Albert Square this week? Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell is walking down the aisle for the third time to marry the scheming Archie Mitchell in what is sure to be a true EastEnder's wedding.  As we all know though the path of true love rarely runs smoothly in soap land.

After some pre-wedding jitters, Peggy throws aside the wedding dress she had made for her big day and follows her heart to don the virginal white and lace wedding gown that she originally fell in love with. However she is worried how her villainous fiancé will react when he sees her change of outfit and true to form; he's not best pleased when she meets him at the altar.  He rises to the occasion though and tells her that she's the only woman for him when Peggy boldly declares he should accept her as she is or not at all.

Peggy's first marriage to Archie's brother, Eric took place back in the ‘60s when she was pregnant with her eldest son, Phil. However she would live to regret that decision after he cheated on her with another woman. He ended the relationship to do the right thing and stay with his children but over the years, this turned sour and he took out his resentment on Peggy.  Her second marriage looked more like a keeper when she walked down the aisle with Frank Butcher. This ended in disaster when he cheated on with her with his true love and her arch nemesis, Pat Butcher.  Peggy is hoping that this marriage will be third time lucky but as viewers have already seen, it looks that she is set to have her heart broken all over again. Archie has already cheated on her, is manipulating her to the point that she is a shadow of the former Peggy and is controlling the lives and loves of all around her.
