Every girl dreams of the perfect fairy tale wedding but one Devon couple really took the idea to new heights when they donned full Shrek costumes complete with green paint and wigs for their wedding last week! And even the guests entered into the spirit with Donkey, Maid Marion, Robin Hood, Snow White and Noddy helping the couple celebrate.

The bride Christine England hit on the idea when planning a fancy dress party for her 40th birthday. When phoning round possible venues for the day, they kept asking whether it was for a party or a wedding which got her thinking, especially as her and fiancé Keith Green had been engaged for a long time. She says that choosing their characters was easy though as her new husband looks just like Shrek! She says in the Telegraph's news story about their day that “It was funny because when we said our vows, Keith had these green ears sprouting from the top of his head”.  She added that she also tried to convince her teenage son to dress up as Donkey but he wasn't having any of it!

The couple spent three hours in make up with a professional make-up artist to recreate the characters, Princess Fiona and Shrek from the hit movie and a friend made replicas of the costumes so that they could really enter into the spirit of the film. The 100 plus guests who attended the ceremony near Barnstaple, Devon were asked to come dressed like characters from TV or film.

The fairy tale couple walked down aisle to REM's ‘Shiny Happy People', walked out as newlyweds to a song from Toy Story and had “witty poems” in place of traditional readings.

The new Mrs Green said “Every girl wants a fairy tale wedding and I got one - with a bit of a twist. It was a real laugh.” Mr Green said that “it was a very strange experience to say the least but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
