Grooms ‘live longer’ if they marry a younger bride!

Published on 03 June 2009

Are you looking for a way to get your man down on one knee? Well you might want tell him that new research suggests that men are likely to live longer if they marry a younger woman!  A man's chances of dying early are reduced by 11% if they walk down the aisle with a woman seven to nine years their junior. And if their wife to be is 15 to 17 years younger then the chances of them meeting an early grave is cut by a fifth!

Spokesman from the Max Planck Institute in Germany who carried out the research says that it may be that “a younger woman will care for a man better and therefore he will live longer.” Another theory could be that the figures are the result of natural selection - that only the healthiest, most successful older men are able to attract younger mates - but of course we knew that already!

The news isn't so good though for us females! Evidently whether we marry our sugar daddy or our toyboy, then our chances of growing old together get lower depending on how big the age gap is. If your husband to be is between 7 to 9 years older or younger than you, then the chances of you enjoying a long and fruitful life is reduced by 20 percent. This rises to 30 percent if the age difference is close to 15 to 17 years! This is probably because we spend most of our young years running around after our men!

Luckily for us, the average age gap in Europe for married couples is usually two to three years with the man being the eldest!
