So you have tied the knot, the wedding is over and the honeymoon tan is fading but when does the cup of newly wedded bliss runneth over?! Well, according to research carried out by Confetti.co.uk, the time that newly weds are the most content in married life is two years, 11 months and eight days after walking down the aisle!
Over 4000 couples were polled by the website to discover at what point they were the most happiest in their marriage. Carol Richardson from Confetti.co.uk said: “Our research has revealed the exact moment into married life that British couples are most content.” She added “three years after walking down the aisle and everything seems to come together - making each other laugh the most and and cuddle up in front of the TV.”
Evidently nearly three years after saying their vows, couples feel completely at ease with each other's bad habits, sorted out their joint account and have worked out how their lives will pan out. They will have also done enough DIY around the home to make it feel all homely and talked about the prospect of children. Other factors that led to this moment of marital bliss included when the couples enjoy the best social life, have romantic weekends away, spend the longest amount of quality time together and when you ladies receive the most compliments from your hubby.
Three years in is also the time when the men are at the most helpful when it comes to those domestic chores which are the bane of married life. Evidently help with the hovering and cooking peaks just before the third anniversary.
But before you despair as you approach that third anniversary, there is no reason why it should it all be downhill from there onwards. The survey also showed all those small and significant things that help make a happy marriage.
In order to ensure that you and your beloved grow old and grey together, you must make sure that you spend 1 ¼ hours a day doing your own thing. Living in each other's pockets is not conducive to a long and happy marriage! You must however also make sure that you spend 24 minutes a day finding out about your other half's day and never, never go to bed on an argument!
The perfect couple should spend three nights a week curled up on the sofa watching films or chatting and must have five cuddles and at least one “I love you” a day.
Your husband must also compliment you at least twice a day and not forget to say “Thank you” for your hard work around the house (you wish!!). And those phone calls, texts or emails to your spouse at work are also important to a healthy, happy marriage. Four is the key number!
So if you have just tied the knot, you have three years of wedded bliss to look forward to before the rust sets in and if you have passed the three year mark, then make sure you use some of the tips from the survey to make sure that you have a long and happy life together!
