Tom Hanks lived up to his reputation as one Hollywood's romantic leading men by helping a stranded bride get to the church on time! In a scene that wouldn't look out of place in one of his movies, Tom Hanks halted filming in Rome on Angels and Demons, the sequel to the Da Vinci Code to offer bride, Natalia Dearnley his arm after her wedding car got caught up in the traffic grid lock caused by the film's production vehicles and tourists.
Tom noticed the wedding limousine stuck in the traffic jam, called “Cut” and rushed over to rescue the now Mrs Dearnley, determined that his film shouldn't ruin her big day. Natalia (who lived in Australia at the time of her wedding but who now lives in London) told Sydney's Daily Telegraph, that “As we were trying to get through Tom came over and asked if he could escort me to my wedding”.
“I couldn't believe it - he stopped filming to help me. Then along with my Dad, he grabbed by veil and threw it over his arm!”
Tom then escorted Natalia through the production staff and massive crowds that had gathered to watch the filming of the epic blockbuster to Rome's famous Pantheon using his security staff to clear the bridal path. Groom, Andrew Dearnley missed all the drama though as he was waiting patiently inside the famous church for his bride to arrive! Natalia said “They were all cheering, it was amazing. Dad invited Tom to stay for the wedding but he said that he had a movie to make.”
Tom was however waiting outside the Pantheon with the film's director, Ron Howard to congratulate the newlyweds when they emerged and invited them to attend the film's world premiere in Rome a few weeks ago. Tom Hanks was later reported as saying that “Her limo couldn't deliver her to the door, so I offered her my arm so she could get hitched.”
Despite taking place in June last year, Tom's latest role as a knight in shining armour saving a damsel in distress only came to light when Angel and Demon's opened last week in cinemas around the world.
