Imagine the scene - the rustic church, blue skies, azure seas, fairy lights twinkling in the sunlight, Abba in the background! According to The Sunday Times, this is the dream wedding that more and more brides want after falling in love with the film 'Mamma Mia' which took the cinemas by storm last summer.

These aspiring dancing queens aren't just happy with visiting the sunkissed Greek Island of Skiathos in the Sporades Islands where the hit musical was set but want to have the whole Mamma Mia experience by taking a chance on their own “Sky” and tying the knot! According to the Twickenham based Ionian Weddings travel agency interviewed by The Sunday Times, the demand for Mamma Mia weddings increased by 60% after the DVD of the romantic musical was released at Christmas. Evidently the agency have arranged over a 100 Greek weddings this summer of which over half have been directly inspired by the movie where the young bride sends invites to the three men who could be her father. Andrea Palikiras, who runs Ionian Weddings along with his wife Jane Palikiras, told The Sunday Times: “A lot of people come to us and say, ‘We love the film. Can you do something like that for us?'  “We certainly can.”

And it seems that it's not just “I have a dream” that's inspiring these Mamma Mia brides. The purse strings are also having a say. In these times of credit crunch, the fact that the average English wedding costs around £22,000 whilst the Greek dream comes in around the £3,000 mark has had an effect. And added to that, the fact that, according to Andrea Palikiras, the Mamma Mia wedding can often come in under the £3,000 mark as people want the same rustic simplicity that adds to the romance of the film and to their wedding just adds to the appeal.

So if you feel like being a dancing queen at your own Waterloo, that Mamma Mia dream isn't so far off. Don't forget too that if you are jetting off to the sunkissed isles to say I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, you'll need to keep things simple in terms of that perfect wedding trousseau. Nothing too heavy or you will be wilting on the heat. A simple, strappy chiffon wedding dress is perfect with a pair of diamante wedding toe post sandals to finish. Add some flowers in your hair, simple posy of wild Greek flowers and a dainty cotton lace wedding parasol to protect that fair skin and you have the name of the game!
