Residents in Lincolnshire thought that they were being invaded by little green men over the weekend when mysterious orange lights were spotted coursing through the night sky. Dozens of the bright lights were spotted on Saturday evening, prompting local residents to contact the local paper, The Echo and send in photographs of the phenomenon. The strange sightings even made the national press with The Daily Mail, The Sun and The Telegraph all running the story.
Local bride, Clare Bower has come forward though to say that actually it wasn't an alien invasion but just the wedding lanterns at her wedding reception. Clare and her new husband Adrian arranged for every family member at their wedding to launch a sky lantern into the night sky to celebrate their nuptials. Nearly 50 lanterns were released into the skies and while many drifted off one way, some changed direction with the wind currents, sparking the UFO sightings.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing at least 50 of the strange objects darting through the sky. Local resident Paul Slight told The Sun newspaper that “there were 26 of them at first, dodging and darting in between each other like they were playing a game. After that, seven more arrived from the right hand side and weaved through the crowd of lights like strange kinds of aircraft. After five minutes of moving around, the flickering yellow objects hung in the air for a second the shot off into the sky and disappeared.”
The new Mrs Bowers said “I think it is absolutely fantastic and bizarre. I never dreamed that we would get such a reaction and the fact it is of national interest is just unbelievable”. She added that “some guests joked that we will get some UFO reports, but I didn't think anything of it again. I didn't think to inform anybody. The reaction it has got is bizarre. I am shocked!”
