Jade Goody married Jack Tweedy last weekend in what must be the most heart wrenching and emotional wedding of the year. The fairy tale wedding took place at the Essex mansion, Down House amidst “lots of tears, lots of laughter and quite a bit of applause as well.” Jade rose to fame in the reality show Big Brother in 2002 for her brash faux pas and since then she has never been far from our screens and from our hearts. The last few months though have been tinged with sadness too as she has been battling with cervical cancer.
The big blow came last week when Jade found out that the cancer had spread to her other organs, making it terminal. With only a few weeks left to live though, Jade has not rested on her laurels and has been organising the wedding of the year from her hospital bed. Jack proposed to the 27-year-old shortly after doctors delivered the bad news and Jade has spent the last week putting all the preparations into place for her own whirlwind fairy tale wedding. Celebrities and businesses from around the country have offered their support to what must be the most bittersweet occasion of the year and even the Justice Secretary, Jack Straw has had an input, waiving Jack's bail conditions for the day so that he and Jade can spend what may be their only night together as man and wife.
The wedding ceremony and wedding reception itself was conducted behind closed doors as part of one of the exclusive magazine and TV deals that Jade hopes will secure the financial future of her two sons. But Max Clifford, PR guru to Jade said that the ceremony was “heart rending but very happy” and the Jade “looked absolutely beautiful and Jack looked very handsome.” With the same determination that has seen Jade through the last few months, she walked down the aisle in an ivory silk wedding dress with a flowing train on the arm of her Grandad and she managed to stand for much of the 45 minute ceremony, only taking to her seat for the last five minutes. After the ceremony there was a sit down meal where Jade and Jack both delivered emotional speeches and the day ended with a full on party in a marquee with over 200 guests. The Sugababes performed for the couple and fireworks lit up the sky to mark the marriage.
And despite the obvious emotion of the occasion, there were some light hearted moments with the bride keeping to bridal tradition of keeping the groom waiting and Jack doing what many a nervous groom has done before - leaving the label on the bottom of his new wedding shoes!!
