Make the wedding romance last

So you've netted your perfect husband and you're embarking on your life together. The wedding is behind you, the honeymoon pictures have been proudly shown to friends and family, and you're living together, man and wife. So how do you keep that romantic glow once the euphoria dies down and the daily routine starts to bite?

The first rule: keep appreciating each other. You married this man because you love certain things about him, so keep telling him exactly what they are and why you value him. Let's hope he does the same for you. And never criticise him when you're out together with friends - you're on his side, remember?

The magazines have been saying this for years, and it may seem a little old-school, but there's truth in it: don't stop trying to be attractive now you've got the ring on your finger! Notoriously, husbands want their wives to stay the same forever, while wives are confident that they can change their husband for the better. If he's used to seeing you immaculately dressed and made-up, with lustrous hair and high heels, I'm afraid you've set a high standard. A sloppy t-shirt and baggy jeans just won't cut it!

Make humdrum things romantic. Go for walks and hold hands. Leave him loving little notes or phone texts. Give him small but carefully chosen gifts. Corny advice that really works - men love being made a fuss of. And if you can't cook already, learn a few amazing recipes that will make you look like Nigella (well, almost!). The way to a man's heart, etc... Or, if you can't face the kitchen, make time for a weekly dinner date with your husband, rekindling the romance of your first dates together.

That in-love stage of crazy lust and infatuation doesn't last forever, but your love life needn't get tepid just because you're married. Now you're really allowed to canoodle! Give lots of kisses and hugs and be enthusiastic for more, and your husband will hold a torch for you that will never go out.
