There's nothing more exciting than getting a wedding invitation, and the style of the invite gives your guests a taster of the wedding itself. So, no pressure, but the stationery you choose to announce your big day is really important! And there's a bewilderingly wide choice out there, with hundreds of stationery websites clamouring for your custom.
Firstly, what's your wedding going to be like? If it's a formal, elegant, expensive affair at a prestigious venue, you may well find that the venue managers will have a selection of suitably elegant stationery to tie you in to your theme. Whether you're getting hitched at the register office and going for a pub lunch, or planning a super-romantic rustic wedding in the country, your stationery should reflect the distinct style of the day. No point in ordering formal cream cards with silver script on them if you're hiring a marquee in the garden; likewise, recycled, organic or home-made stationery won't cut it if you're marrying at Hampton Court.

Also to be considered, the budget (as always). Some couples just send out e-invites, but they won't get saved and treasured afterwards as beautiful wedding stationery does. There are several levels you can go to, as provided by the professionals:
The basic package, consisting of wedding invitations, evening / reception invitations, table placement cards and thank you cards.
The next step up, including all of the above plus 'save the date' cards, sent out about nine months before the day itself, and order of service cards for the ceremony.
The full monty, which in addition gives you menus, table plans, and extras for the guests such as RSVP cards and envelopes to send back their confirmation.
You could find yourself spending up to 400 pounds on 100 invites, so take care! More importantly, what do you write on the invitations? Well, again there are lots of websites that will help you if you want to stick to formal wording, but increasingly couples are writing their own scripts. And the more simple, direct and sincere, the more touching it usually is.
