Seaside Weddings

So you can't fly to the Maldives to exchange your vows on an authentic white beach? Budget more suited to Blackpool than Barbados? Or are you sensibly saving up for a house deposit instead of splashing out on your big day? Well, you can still conjure up a marine theme, without a fish finger in sight.

Think mermaid. Go for a figure-hugging silver dress with a fishtail skirt that kicks out at the hem. Strappy sandals like our debbie sandal or an open toed mule such as the pamela wedding shoes on those manicured toes. Wear a silver, pearl or crystal tiara in your hair. Hang silver and pearl chains round your neck (see our wedding jewellery for inspiration) and get glittery skin with body make-up. It's a fantasy!

Your groom could come as King Neptune if he liked, but he's probably better off in a light suit with a silver or green waistcoat. If he's got the legs, fairytale breeches would echo the otherworldly theme.

Suitable venues would have to include a watery element. The London Aquarium springs to mind! Or your local swimming pool. Otherwise, find an attractive lake or pond and set up your outdoor buffet. Or create your own seaside indoors with sand, pebbles, lots of shiny glitterballs hanging from the ceiling, mirrors slanting on the walls to reflect light, fish mobiles and shells.

Alternatively, you could do a more straightforward seaside theme, with everyone in colourful beachwear. You could sport a bikini if you like! Guests could sit on deckchairs and dine off picnic hampers and champagne. More of a 'kiss me quick' occasion than a dreamy undersea world. Your wedding: your call.
