We're not all made the same shape and size, as we know - what looks fabulous on a voluptuous, well-endowed girl will look simply silly on a size zero waif, and vice versa. When you go shopping, go alone, or take a trusted friend who'll help you make a wise choice. Take your mum only if she promises not to cry! Make a list of the designers you like, and find out where you can track them down. Take a couple of bras with you, and shoes that are similar to the ones you plan to wear on the day. And don't buy a dress in a size that you'll never fit into, in the vain hope that a pre-wedding crash diet will work magic. It won't!

 

Take advice from the shop assistants. It's their job to find you the perfect dress, and they will know their stock thoroughly, as well as having a good eye for the styles that will suit your figure. Certain design details can hide figure faults and emphasise your good points. if you don't like your arms, go for a design that can be worn with a bolero or shrug. Hate your tummy? Go for an Empire line gown that falls from just under the bust in a smooth line to the floor - avoid nipped-in waists. Big bust? A sweetheart neckline is flattering without letting you spill out too much, and flatters pretty shoulders. Big bottom? A dress with an elaborate train or bustle on the back will disguise your vulnerable area. Conversely, if you have a tiny waist, go for a laced-up corset top and simple skirt, and if you want to make the most of your bust, go strapless. Don't worry, the perfect dress is out there for you!
