In credit-crunch Britain, it's always perversely enjoyable to see a couple with no money hang-ups splash out big-time on a really ostentatious wedding - although we might snicker when things don't go to plan for the wealthy celebs getting hitched. Super-WAG Coleen Rooney found last year that the rain insists on raining on rich and poor alike, as she ran to her lavish wedding in Italy under cover of umbrellas to protect her £100,000 pound dress. And of course, the late Jade Goody's recent wedding, standing up bald and proud to marry 21-year-old Jack Tweed, with no expense spared and all pictures sold to the highest bidder to provide future security for her children, is the prime example of 'riches can't buy happiness.'

Supermodel Giselle Bundchen just married her sports star boyfriend Tom Brady after just a month of courtship - no news on the dress yet but, as the lady could wear a telephone directory and look fabulous, it's immaterial! Latin actress Salma Hayek married her longterm partner, and father of her daughter Valentina, in Paris on Valentine's Day, Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips tied the knot with his exotically named fiance Autumn Kelly, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher finally married Nicole Appleton, and heartthrob actor Sean Bean took the marital plunge for the fourth time with girlfriend Georgina.

Sadly, celeb weddings tend to come unstuck rather quickly. Sir Bob Geldof's eldest, Peaches, married at 19 last year but is now separated from her youthful husband Max Drummey, while 'troubled' Amy Winehouse and her formerly incarcerated husband Blake Fielder-Civil are heading for the divorce courts (and more trouble, no doubt). But best of luck, Denise Van Outen and Lee Mead, Geri Halliwell and millionaire Fabrizio Poletti (what does she see in him?), and Cameron Diaz and Paul Sculfor, all said to be revving up for marriage this year. We'll see!
