‘Tis the season of weddings again and the WAGs were out in force last weekend to celebrate the wedding of Chelsea and England footballer Joe Cole and his fiancée Carly Zucker.  For Carly, it was a long awaited and much anticipated day. Even when she was out in the Australian outback last December as part of “I'm a Celebrity....”, she was planning excitedly for her wedding day! And there was no doubt that her big day had finally arrived at the weekend, when she emerged from her home wearing a silk robe emblazoned with the word “Bride” on the back.

The wedding of the year took place at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, home to Chelsea pensioners and WAGS were out in force to help the happy couple celebrate.  Chelsea and England Captain John Terry attended with his wife Toni along with Joe's former teammate, Wayne Bridge and partner Vanessa Perroncel.  Man U star Michael Carrick and wife Lisa were also on the guest list.

The wedding took place under a shroud of secrecy as the couple have secured the usual A-list magazine deal. Security guards patrolled the grounds of the Royal Hospital to make sure that there were no sneaky previews of the newlyweds.  It is reported though that the proceeds will be given to charity and guests were asked to give donations to a children's charity instead of a wedding gift.

The wedding ceremony itself took place in the chapel of the Royal Hospital and Carly walked down the aisle all in white. Her long, flowing gown was designed by Ana Cristache. Her bridesmaids who were all friends also wore dresses designed by Ana. Joe Cole and his groomsmen wore £4000 mohair suits designed by Saville Row tailor Ray Stowers.

The wedding service was conducted by the Royal Hospital Chaplain, Rev Dick Whittington and he told the Daily Mail that “It was a traditional English wedding with traditional English vows. The bride looked beautiful . Joe was composed, absolutely focused on the ceremony.”  The couple and their guests then celebrated their marriage with a champagne reception and 3 course wedding breakfast in the State Apartments before dancing the night away.

But the football wedding of the year looks as if it could be overshadowed by the nuptials of Rio Ferdinand and Rebecca Ellison next week. In a celebration that is set to be the most expensive footballers wedding yet, Rio is reportedly flying 100 guests by first class or in a private jet to a five star Caribbean resort. The wedding itself will last 5 days and is allegedly costing £5million!!!
