Wedding Planning - Six Months and Counting

It's getting quite close now! But you've organised the big stuff, so relax. Unless you're marrying abroad, that is. Overseas weddings are recognised in the UK, as long as they don't contravene UK laws that affect your eligibility to be married. If you'd like to check this, contact the consulate or embassy for the country you want to marry in. Of course, if you've selected an all-inclusive wedding package through a hotel or holiday company, these legal points will be sorted out for you. Always book through a reputable tour operator - and if you're going to be changing your name on your marriage, sort out a new passport two months before you travel.

Some countries will need you to stay for a few days before the ceremony, to complete the paperwork. If you're going somewhere hot, lie back and get to work on your tan. And try not to get a tummy bug - this could ruin your once-in-a-lifetime overseas wedding!

Whether at home or abroad, now's a good time to fine-tune details. Like your hair, for instance. Formal chignon or romantic ringlets? Up or down? Tiara, fascinator, veil or flowers? Book your regular hairdresser if you want an elaborate updo, and don't make any experiments with hair colour that you might regret!  Also, talk to your bridesmaids about their dresses. If you're paying for them, it gives you more clout in dictating style and colour. But remember that women come in all shapes and sixes, so best to choose a simple style, or go for a colour theme and let your bridesmaids choose their own dress in that colour.
