We've all heard of couples who refused to compromise on their dream wedding. Couples who had champagne ideas on an orange juice budget. Don't make your wedding day into a millstone. Sit down together and discuss exactly what you can afford to spend on the reception and honeymoon. Include your savings and contributions from your family. Set up a savings plan and squirrel away as much as you can every month. And why not turn out your wardrobes and sell the clothes and electricals you don't really need? Every little helps…

Decide which aspects of your wedding day are most important to you. Do you want a professionally produced video to treasure? Are the rings going to be your biggest spend? Do you dream of a designer dress - or are you prepared to compromise? Is the reception going to be a slap-up hotel extravaganza, or fish and chips washed down with champagne? If there's something you've always dreamed of having or doing, go for it, as long as you don't pay too dearly for it. It's your call.

In a nutshell, if you can comfortably spend a lot, by all means do so. It's a very special day. If you can't, tailor your celebration to reflect your budget, but don't scrimp on style!
